Hi everyone! My problem: I have installed a linux PPP, DNS (etc...) server in a 192.168.1.* intranet. The domain is a bogus one, needed only for internal purposes (say: bogus.net). This intranet has a NT host (providing access on demand) with microsoft proxy server, as a gateway to the internet . 1. Win95 workstations with Proxy Client software on, cannot resolve bogus.net names via the linux server, even when the linux box is set as primary DNS. Linux can be accessed only via IP number. Everything is accessible and works fine on the Linux box, but only via IP number. 2. The only workstation without proxy client software on, CAN resolve bogus.net names via the linux box, and accesses to all the services via name. It has the linux box as primary DNS. 3. The linux box has access to the internet ONLY via web, and ONLY if the NT host is set as an HTTP proxy server. My diagnosys: I have two problems: the first is that the intranet cannot solve names through the linux server. The second is that the linux host cannot access the internet via the proxy server. If thas is correct, these are the consequences, I guess: A. I have to do something to the NT host, maybe setting Linux host as primary DNS, so that bogus names are solved trough it before looking for them onto the REAL DNS. What more? B. The linux host hat to be configured to access internet via a proxy server. How? Could anybody help me, please? Thanks in advance Gabriele Carioli (
