I have recently installed a version of linux using zipslack . Since my install, I have been unsuccessful getting any new applications to compile. So, I decided to try to just download a simple game of life and try to compile it.  (I downloaded dblife-6.0). I unzipped it in windows 98 (maybe this is where I am going wrong, please help!). I then copied over the directory to my c:/linux directory, rebooted in dos mode and ran linux.bat I logged in as root and from there I cd'ed to the life directory and attempted to edit the makefile. When I tried to save, it gave me: UMSDOS_NOTIFY_CHANGE: no EMD file life/
