the best free linux A Newbie to Linux
Hello to everybody. I have been a member of this group for a good while. The reason for this is that I had and still have the intention to understand what Linux is all about. Right now I am considering to download Linux on my laptop along with Microsoft Windows 2000. Is this possible? What is the best way do this? Where can I get or download the Linux operating system? Is there a cost for the Linux operating system?

you need to figure out which distribution of Linux is best for you however new users usually start with Ubuntu. You can download the latest version here http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download.After you download it burn it and install it. It is possible to install Linux and still have Windows on you laptop.During the installation process you will be required to choose how much hard drive space to give Ubuntu. Fantastic You may want to consider virtualization as an option if your laptop is powerful (memory 1Gig and multiple CPU-cores etc.) enough? If not dual booting is another option in which case you will want to install Windows first. There is so much more I could write, but the best way is to go in head first Ai On Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 2:50 PM, Daine Brissett < This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it : Welcome! I use Ubuntu's Wubi installer. This makes it possible to quickly get a preview of Linux but start the installation process from within windows. http://wubi-installer.org/ Once you're comfortable you can move to bigger better things, maybe even wipe windows . @Dwight, lol!  I support David with the use of wubi.  I use Wubi.  It will allow Jina-Leigh  to fully migrate to Linux as the knowledge and comfort level increases.
