wrote in message Third, I do not need to give it a try again. I work with Windows every day. I develop enterprise software under Windows. Our shop uses a mix of AIX, OS/400, Linux, Netware, and Windows 95/98/NT/2K. Most of our applications are distributed across two or more of these platforms. It is my most considered opinion, after having worked in this particular environment for over three years, and having worked in similar environments for 15 years prior to that, that Windows (any flavor) is, for serious application development, the absolute worst of the lot. However, if you want toy programs heavy on eye candy to hide missing capability, Windows may be right up your alley. And what missing capabilities are these you are talking about? Are you comparing win9x or win NT or win2000. As an 18 year veteran, I would hope you know they are all not the same and possess different capabilities for different uses. Using win9x as an enterprise server is not evewry bright, then again, handing your secretary a linux box without a gui is not very bright either. Each platform has it's best points and best uses. But lets see how great Linux is. A few days ago, I did a new install of LM 6.1, X did some bizzarre things to my screen. contacting the legendary support cumminity of linux, i asked my question on how to fix this. I recievec no replies. Okay, no problem. using the windows mentality, if it doesn't work, reinstall. i reinstalled and hey the x server worded now., okay so at least the test did. Reboot, 10 minutes later, device hdc2 failed, okay I never told you to mount that partition. Half a dozen services failed and I am still waiting for it to finally finish booting and give me a prompt okay, how long do you look at a dead machine with a black screen before you hit the off button? dont want to just turn off linux, no do do that, wait the screen just flashed, it isn't dead yet. Well i will leave it and see if it finally boots up by tommorrow morning. After several dozen installs, I have yet to see an install with X work properly and treat your hardware properly. Well here it goes again, X doesn;t weant to use the SVGA server I told it to use, it want to use their mach 64 and crash. You know what, give me my pretty interface and gee gaw gadgets and a stable gui and I am happy. Well I got a solution for linux install problems. Format C: /s Insert Windows install disk, punch a few numbers, yes, yes, yes. Get a cup of coffee, have operating sytem ready to go. And BTW, thanks to the Linux community for not helping. B.P. .........and don't let the door hit your ass on your way out.......
